Catfish bait... I put them in the churn this morning with all the special ingredients.. I should not have to turn them for 2 weeks.. If they turn out like last years it will be a great fishing season....

Circle hooks cause too many gut hooks. And it's 6/0, not #6, unless you are fishing for crickets.

I'd go with the circle hooks. I use the #4's!! We managed to catch 1 - 34 pounders using them last year. Is there a particular reason for using the 6's? Are you trot lining, jugging, limb lining or what? Any chance you'd reveal your tater recipe? I'm trying to find something to use so my kids and I can do more fishing and spend less time finding bait.

I would love to know your recipe too. We used everything from hotdogs soaked in Koolaid, nightcrawlers, bloodbait, chicken livers, gizzards, cut-bait, frozen rotten shad to mullet guts. Now I will tell you mullet gut and shad worked the best for us.
We run trot lines and noodles at the lake.

I don't know what Bronco uses but for years I have been doing the following.
5 lbs of potatos cut into big chunks.
1 Whole garlic bulb cleaned and mashed.
1 quart of white viniger.
1 large can of gravy train dog food.
2 large cans of sardines in oil
1 tube of preparation H
Mix the garlic, viniger, dog food, sardines and prep H together in a 5 gallon bucket.
Add the potato chunks and stir until all of the potatos are completely covered.
Let sit for 3 days and stir again.
Let sit for 7 days or until the potatos have turned black but are not yet real mushy. You want the potatos to still be some what firm so they will stay on the hooks.
It takes a little work but it does catch cat fish when nothing else will.

Any of ya'll ever heard of people catching catfish on raw squash? Supposedly one of the few times that catfish feed by sight alone is when the fresh water mussels are "falling" (whatever that means) and the squash mimics the mussels. Anyone ever seen it done personally or is it an old wives' tale?

Prep H is made with a natural fish oil which acts as an attractant. It works on other fish as well. Put a little on a crank bait when fishing for bass.

What are the best taters to use?
The brown ones for baking? Little red ones? Yukon Golds are expensive but have more starch, I think.
