I'm normally just your average beer guy but lately I've developed a strong taste for bourbon. Give me a few suggestions on something new to try. Preferably something with a middle of the road price.

Are you drinking it straight or mixing it with something?

When you go to your liquor dealer, they usually put the best ones on the "top shelf", and as the price progresses, the lower shelves usually have the least quality. There are a lot of good entries lately, but some of these guys on here really get into it more than me. They'll be able to get you going in the right direction.

EDIT: Some dealers, like mine, will let you try a small bit before you commit to an expensive bottle you're considering.

Irishguy on here tries a lot of different libations and finds some pleasant surprises from time to time. Some of the whiskys and whiskeys he's recommended to me have been obscure brands with surprisingly great value and interesting tastes.

A surprising one is Evan Williams white label. You can't buy it at the abc - you'll have to find a liquor store that carries it. Another good one you would never expect is Ancient Ancient Age. Its a ten year old triple a. Not sure if you can get it here but the ten star is not bad either and you can get it here. It's closer to 6 years old.

Maker's Mark or Jack Daniels Fire are both good.

Taste around some to see which bourbons/whiskeys you favor...Tennessee, Kentucky, Canadian, and Scotch each have their own unique flavor. I'm not a fan of Scotch, but I like Kentucky, Canadian, and Tennessee, in that order. I don't go much for the flavored whiskey, except for cinnamon, and that I usually mix with straight whiskey until there's only a hint of cinnamon. Never tried the apple, peach, or honey whiskey, but I hear they're okay...maple is terrible. Actually, the flavored whiskey probably has its' place, in some drinks, but I only drink it neat and sometimes use it in making cookies.

I'm gonna throw a vote for Buffalo Trace. I've got a slew of Bourbon's but Buffalo Trace is a solid choice. I like Woodford and Jeffersons as well.

I may have the taste buds of a corpse when it comes to whiskey but I'll take R&R over anything I have ever had.Whiskey is the only liquor I drink and when I do[rare occasion] it is R&R straight outta the freezer.
