No doubt that this cycle's Libertarian ticket is a compromise. I'd much prefer Ron Paul or Andre Marrou. However, these two guys are far superior to anything the Rs or Ds have put forth or this cycle.
A vote for Johnson isn't a vote for Hillary or Trump. It is, in fact, a vote for Johnson. I will be voting Libertarian like I have since 1992. Keep voting for your compromise candidates like Romney, McCain, or Trump. Look where that's gotten us: the brink of Democratic Socialism.
