It's the whole chicken vs egg argument.

I'm not a Johnson supporter, but I do support a lot of Libertarian ideals, not all, but most. [I have never supported a lot of stuff the Republican establishment does either.]

The problem with any third party movement is you actually have to have a strong party, before you can attract a decent candidate. Not the other way around. Take Ross Perot for instance, seen as a solid candidate by many folks, but his movement faded away after he lost and he drifted off into obscurity as a footnote in history.

In my opinion the only way for a 3rd party or alternate party to take off is for folks to start supporting one first and then decent candidates will start flocking to it.
