I know this question has been around here before, but products are always changing and new lines are hitting the markets.

My question is, What type of braid do yall use? And are there any pros/cons to it?

I've been using SAMURAI braid this past year and really like it...except for the price....

I like power pro. I don't use a lot of braided line. I only use it on my flippin stick, and i'll have one or two rods with a swimmin jig set up with braid. I first tried spider wire, and hated it because it didn't cast very well. I bought some spider wire last week though, that is called easy cast ( i believe ). It seems to do what the name says, but i haven't caught a fish off of it yet so, i don't know much else about it. it looks like dental floss, it doesn't really look like regular braid.

i just really got into jig fishing last year and i absolutely love PowerPro... i tried the stren super braid, spiderwire, etc and they all sucked... and with powerpro topped with a carrotstix rod you can fill every lil tap

any braid i've used knots and kinks up also line moves around on the spool and causes uneven spots leading to huge backlashes. I just use 20lb mono on my flippin reel. It doesn't have the feel of braid when you get that tap-tap but I was working to keep that braid from clusterf***ing the whole time.

You can't beat PowerPro or Suffix Braid. I've used them both and have had no problems with knotting, slipping, backlashes, etc.... The only problem i've had with them is the color wears off pretty quick.

Try heavy floro, it has almost no stretch so you feel the bottom contour and subtle strikes better. Mono is horrible around grass because if you get a little snag you can shake floro or braid free but mono will come flying toward the boat.
I flip with a med/hvy rod and 20lb floro more than my flippin stick with 35lb braid. That heavy flippin rod hurts my elbow after a couple hours of flipping and I have never lost a fish on the floro.

Dalk, if you're dead-set against braid use the 20-pound fluoro. I like Vicious and haven't had any problems with it.

Be sure to wet the knot when you cinch it. I use a Palomar for everything.


A key to braid is spooling it on very tightly. I wear gloves to hold the line when I'm winding it on and really try to get it on there tight. During a day on the water I'll re-do that occasionally, but I use 65-pound test and don't have much bother with dig-in problems.

I have 30-pound braid (10-pound diameter) on a reel that I use for topwaters, spinnerbaits, jigs and plastics. It's sort of a testing and all-around setup. I occasionally get a casting backlash. They're not fun.

Power Pro braid and Fireline superline.

I use Vicious copolymer on all my reels. I tried it last year with good results.

Why do some use 65-100 lb. test braid??

I've never broke 30lb braid. I think that stuff could pull a train...

I use PowerPro braid on every single reel I have. I use it for crankbaits, spinnerbaits, flipping, swimming a jig, etc, etc, etc. I use the 12 lbs diameter PowerPro for everything except crankbaits (I use the 6 lb diameter for that).


PowerPro outcasts, outlasts, and out works mono or flouro every day of the week.

The heavier braid handles better due to the larger diameter. I use 50 or 65 Power Pro all of the time.

For bassin I use Trilene XT 90% of the time.The other 10% I use trilene big game. Ain't seen no reason to try all that other crap.
I do use fireline crappie fishing. Makes it easier to straighten the hook out when you get hung in a tree top.

Short-range pitching with 65-pound test, to me, is easier and I never worry about breaking off or the knot coming undone.
