Anybody been fishing recently? Headed there Sunday and haven't fished since Oct. Any advice will be appreciated!!!

I got some advise. Been there 4 different times, found fish, just couldn't put them in the boat. Stay home, watch some TV and drink a few cold ones... That is my advice. :)P

I was there this time last year. Go north until you hit concrete, fish the rocks & current, they're full of spots. Seriously, be careful if you go that far upriver, you tear the foot off you motor if you're not careful.

Up river has the best bite now till april. You can really catch great spots on any current break if there pulling water. The steam plant is good if it is not already being fished, upriver there are few gas pumps on the right side with riprap banks, they are good as well, these are some of the "local spots" that always hold fish. I will be somewhere up river Sun. as well, if you see a silver and maroon skeeter with a guy fishing by himself come by and say hey!

It only took 10 pounds with 3 fish to win a tournament saturday on Lay. I was told that the heavy hitters were in it as well and zeroed. I took my son after church sunday and we zeroed as well. Talked to several men fishing and leaving as I showed up at the ramp and only one man had two fish.

tough day on mitchell as well. we had 25 boats and i believe on 6 people weighed in a limit. i had 6 bites all day, but put 5 in the boat and cashed a check. 13.20 1st. 11.02 2nd 9.90 3rd 4th 9.80. Most people didn't even bother to weigh in. I've got a long weekend coming up, and our next tournament is on lay. So i'll be burning it up for a while.

Thanks for the help! we put in at beeswax and went up river but didn't do any good, but I did get a sweet peice of driftwood to put my skull mount on! We stopped in one of our holes up from beeswax and there were shad everywhere, alot of them dead others slow moving, any explanations for this???

check out the neely henry post. i was wondering the same thing. i think someone said it was probably the cold weather that moved in, i don't know though.

I saw a lot of dead shad as well that weren't there last week.

I fished Lay on 1/31 and saw all of the shad. My thoughts is that the Coosa was turning over forcing the shad to the top seeking oxygen. Once they were up, the extreme cold caused a die-off.
