I've killed a couple, may even be forgetting some...

Remember shooting a nice buck myself once, deer was trotting across a clear-cut pretty far off, I took a quick shot and thought the deer acted hit. Never found any sign of a hit, but I was young back then and didn't really give a good effort. A week later some other guys were hunting in that area and killed a really good 9 point, it had a fresh hole all the way through the hindquarters. They said the deer was acting "funny".

I shot a buck with my bow once, straight on shot, arrow hit deer (I thought in the face / top of head) and deflected off to the side. About two weeks later during the special muzzleloader season I killed buck cross our powerline. Turned out to be the same deer, had a nasty gash from his mid-back to his tail right down the spine.

I posted another story about a 7pt I killed, and the taxidermist called me saying it had previously been shot in back of the head with what appeared to be a .22

Boy shot at a "big buck" at what he estimated to be 500+ yards late one evening in a field on our powerline. Swore he hit the deer. Way later in the season, actually the last day, I killed a 9pt in the same spot (I had climbed a power-pole on that same field, the deer was in the thick stuff about 50 yards off the field)....it's back leg was shot near the knee joint!

The second largest buck I've ever killed had spinal vertebrae sticking out of a healed hole.

I got my broadhead back when a buddy of mine killed a doe. Atleast I think it was mine, nobody in the club shot simmons landsharks. It was 2 years later and she was in the same area.

Years ago in Furman Alabama I took a nice 14 point that had been shot high in the shoulder almost up to the spine. The was a bald spot with a scab the size of the end of my finger. I cut it open and only found scar tissue. He was a little poor from losing so much weight. What was weird is I heard him coming way before I saw him. He was walking up a tree line and went through a barbed wire fence. I could hear his antlers hitting limbs and getting hung up in the fence. He came out in a cow pasture feeding when I took him. Best deer I have take to date.

I shot a buck late ML several years ago snow on ground. When I was dragging it out I noticed lots of hair falling out. I also notice a wound on front of throat. Well processor called me they found 12 inches of arrow shaft along back strap with a field pt on it. So someone shot it face on when through neck and stuck in backstaps.

shot a nice 9point a couple years ago that had taken a .22 to the eyeball the night before. had fresh blood running out of his socket where the eye use to be and I knew I popped him in the neck. took him to the taxidermist and he found the bullet in his skull. I almost had him mounted with one eye but decided not to.

I've shot two that I can think of.

One was my biggest Alabama buck. He had a scab on the back of his head that I thought was from an antler gouge while fighting. Once he was skinned we found a very mushroomed .30 cal bullet laying on the back of his skull.

The other was a buck that I shot in late January that our esteemed moderator Brent had shot through the leg during archery season.

About 10 years ago I got a young 10pt it had those crooked finger antlers, kinda different so I decided to have it mounted. My taxidermist told me that when he went to cape it out that buck shot BB's fell out on the floor, they weren't mine.

My brother killed 2. One was big 14. Had a festering buckshot in neck and a buckshot hole thru ear. Tip of horn was also shot off.
Then he killed one that had been shot with a .22. It was nasty and infected. We'd heard someone nearby was shooting them with a .22 when they got in his garden. I always suspected it was true when that one showed up.

I'm saying it was back in the late 80's, my dad took a week off work and hunted every day that entire week. He was basically just walking around on Cheaha Mountain (T'dega Nat'l Forest), which is just crazy low odds of even seeing a deer to be honest. The first day of that week he took a 3" Magnum Rem 1100 with #1 buckshot. Some dogs ran a buck across the ridge he was on and he shot a couple of times at it, said he could see hair fly off, but the deer never let up. Fast forward to Friday of that same week and he was in the same general area, but by his description about a mile down the gravel road, and this time with a 30-06. His story is that he was sneaking down a ridgetop and something "reflective" caught his eye in a blowdown on the opposing ridge from him. He scopes it and it's a buck bedded down, looking straight at him (said it must've been the sun shining off his antlers). Well, he shoots it right there in it's bed, walks over there, and while admiring the deer realizes it's the same deer he shot on Monday!! When we skinned it (I came home form school while he was doing it) there were big bruises and pellets just under the skin all over one side.

Did yall eat them or discarded around the bad areas?

I killed a 6pt running dogs in Covington county that had been shot at least twice that I know of with a .22. found two bullets in his back straps.

I imagine it very common in dog hunting areas.

I've killed several that had been hit before. Probably killed some that had been missed before too...

Last season..First morning of gun season.Soon as it started getting light enough to see through the binos I saw him about 300 yards..Rushed shot and this is what I got..


I knew when I got to the spot it wasn't a fatal shot.No blood whatsoever only white hair.Fast forward to December 9th.Last 5 minutes or so of light.I could barely make out the deer with my naked eye but could still see decent from the binos.Was watching some does through the binos across the clear-cut when something caught my eye outta the corner of the binos.I didn't know it was the same deer till I got to him just knew he was a shooter.150ish yards walking up the side of a hill in the middle of the clearcut.

I shot a 7 pt one afternoon, about a mile from where my dad shot him that morning. Had no idea it was the same deer until I got up to him.

Shot an 8pt that had a festering pocket in his hindquarter. Assume it was a gun shot or arrow, didn't cut through it to see.
