So Im driving home Friday evening and wife unit calls my cell phone, she says there was smoke coming out the vents of our home ac unit. I tell her to shut the T-stat off and I'm on the way home after I make a detour to Lowes for some other stuff. No worries, she says,... "I already have so and so company out here with their field service manager"and they are going to replace the unit ( Its a Trane gas/pack 2 ton unit that we purchased back in 2003) . I say: WHAAAAT!!!????
Yes, she says, he took me out to the unit and showed me where the blower motor is rubbing causing it to smoke,and when he hook his gauges up it blew oil all out on the unit,etc......
So the field manager gets on the phone with me and goes on to explain how bad and dangerous our unit was, so on and so forth,..and his guys are on the way now with a new unit and they'll have us up and going shortly. Yeah right, I though, although I said some choice words under my breath!!
The wife gets back on the line and says that the guy suggested to her that she get the "deluxe package" . She bites it hook , line and sinker.The deluxe package includes a lifetime reusable washable filter ( WOO HOO!!) , 12 years all parts and labor warranty and a UV bulb filtration sanitize system installed into the air duct .
They installed a Trane /Heil 3 ton unit that has a 14.5 SEER rating. The installers did stay until about 11pm Friday night getting us some ac going and will be coming back Wednesday to replace the duct work that they say is way too small for this 3 ton unit.He stated that the current duct size would work on a 1 ton unit, not a 2 or 3 ton. And they will be cutting us in a new, additional return in the foyer floor since the house only has single a 16x20 return now.
If any of you do HVAC , feel free to pm me, or post it up and let me know what you would have installed this unit for please. Its a easy to get to unit on a concrete pad located on the side of the house.
When the wife told me the quote that he gave her for that "deluxe package" , I almost wrecked my truck, I chit you not !!!!
Appx what do you that do this think the unit would be installed for?
