I once asked the same question about chargers because opinions seem to differ somewhat. Some people believe that a low and slow trickle charge is the best way to go. A few years ago there seemed to be a shift towards fast charging using chargers that operate at higher amps.
A guy at crappie.com posted this link and it had very interesting information about batteries.
http://www.windsun.com/Batteries/Battery_FAQ.htm Basically, the further down you run a battery, the more you shorten it's life. Charge them quick and keep them charged. Find a charger that will automatically switch to a trickle charge once the batteries are charged.
