I've never seen it before but I've got a 1 acre plot that they have just about destroyed in under a week. I sprayed with 24D-B 200 about 2 weeks ago and it looked fine after the first week. Now the worms have pretty much destroyed it and a 2 acre millet field 100 yards away from it.

Army worms will eat the paint off a wall it seems.
They are some bad Dudes. They will strip a field in no time.

I've never seen that. Sorry it happened to you. Ours are suffering thru our annual summer drought. It looks like I would learn, but I don't.

A friend lost 3 fields last week. I've never lost chufa
to army worms.

I haven't ever heard of them eating chufas either but they are dang sure doing it!
Just my luck I guess! Seems like the harder I try and the more I do for the game the more mother nature fights me.
I've been in Louisiana since Thursday afternoon and come home to this mess.
Oh well! Waiting on it to cool off a little before I spray the worms this afternoon and I'll be burning diesel tomorrow planting more millet, chufas and clay peas.

Wow, that is one heck of an army worm outbreak. Hate it for you after all that work. Maybe, hopefully maybe, you can get a good rain and bring the stems back but I would not hold my breath. Good luck on the replant.

I'm not going to replant this plot. I'm hoping that I'll get some crop out of it. I've got another plot that's about 3/4 of an acre that I'm going to plant tomorrow. Hopefully between the two of them I'll provide enough to hold turkeys here.
I've got 6 more good plots on our club that all look great.

They'll really hurt your feelings when they invade a Bermuda hayfield. We have to keep a daily check this time of year. They can wipe out 40-50 acres in a couple of days.

About 8 acres of my dove field looks like that Hank. They destroyed it in about 3 days. Eating millet

Hate to hear that. They can sure move through a field quick. Mine were fine Wednesday afternoon and ruined Sunday morning.

Well Hank you can add me to the list of army worm victims this summer. Went to the farm to do some work and check the weeds in my clover plots to find that about 15 acres of pure Durana that I've babied the last 3 years has been decimated in a matter of days. Just another reminder that Mother Nature is always in control!

Why won't army worms keep foodplots in the summer eat down, so you don't have to bushhog them?

The army worms ate the foliage off of my millet allowing more sun to reach the ground, allowing the damn morning glories to sprout!.... My chufas are good, I sprayed the army worms and killed them and after 3 weeks the chufas are looking much better but I just sprayed my millet for the second time trying to kill it and the morning glories (I literally nuked it today) so the birds will start using the field!

I talked to a guy at our local co-op last week and he said they had sold more poison to folks battling them this year than ever before!

Yes it's been a big run. Big full moon this past week guarantees another egg lay and hatch. Watch for them again in 5-7 days.

Hate to see that. I know firsthand how destructive they can be. They're not keying on any specific grass here this year. I guess because of the drought. Usually they go after the bermuda first, but this year they're just eating whatever they get to first.
A friend of mine had them eat horse nettle in one of his pastures. I don't think goats will even eat horse nettle.
