Anthony, when I was growing up out there all the farmland was farmed. If, by some odd chance, some of it sat idle for a little while and then got bush hogged it seems like every farmer would kill a rattler or 3. There was a lot of rattlers out there in the 60s and 70s. Black racers, chicken snakes and rat snakes were plentiful too and occasionally a Coach Whip would be scared up in a field. I guess that all the development and lack of farming has caused most of them to move on.

I knew you were fearless since you stood there watching me catch those bees.

I've got one of those chicken snakes that lives in my barn where i feed cows. I see him about once a week and almost as frequent i see a king snake thats about 4ft long. The chicken snake likes about 2" being 8ft, my post are on 8ft centers he almost makes it across them on that 2x4. I wont either one of them i havent seen any rats or poisonous snakes or those stupid starlings so as long as theyre earning their keep they can stay

That's better than a cat! You don't have to feed it.

Good job on catching that snake. The trick is to grab them by the tail and gently sway them to keep them from tagging you. They will eventually calm down and allow you to slide your free hand down their body to support them.

This one was about 6ft long.I caught him at the hunting club a few years ago and played with him till he bit me.About 15 Bud Lights made me think I was quick like lightning.I was wrong. He got me on my hand.He still got a pass.I have let alotta rat snakes go here in the woods at my house.Had a King snake in my back yard a few months ago.I left him alone and let him go on about his business.

That's a good one Trox. Love how he's got his mouth open in the pic.

I was about 14 when I was swinging from the rafters like on monkey bars in the barn and one of the rafters had a 7ft chicken snake laying on top. He bit me when I grabbed him on the the rafter. I don't remember the 20ft drop. I just remember running like a maniac outta that barn. That may have been the first time I ever said the "f" word out loud.

I'm more impressed that you were able to run out after falling 20ft

Congrats!!! You know once you hold them long enough, they become non-aggressive and usually won't bite?

My last snake I caught was last summer and it was a black racer. I was lucky to catch him and he was pissed at first but later calmed down and would not bite me after a short while.

Again, congrats on the catch!!!
