I normally wait for the pricey places to be on the company or parents dime before partaking.  Only I'm the parent now.

We go out for anniversary and occasionally birthdays. We go to Chucks in bham most of the time.
I go out with work a lot and last night we went to Perry's off of 280. Fairly new place to Bham. They had a July only deal that was 4 items (Appetizer, Salad, Entrée, Desert) for $44. Not a bad deal for a nice steak place. Heard good things about Perry's. Gonna have to try it. Too many great places to list that I'd happy drop my own dollars at. Ruth Chris is Ok....I would never spend my own money there but have eaten on other's dime many times.

Ate at Cotton's in OB 1st of June with some company folks, we all were there for a meeting. One of the HR managers orders a filet well done, we tried to talk her out of it, she insisted on well done no pink or I'll send it back, she could barely cut but was happy as a pig eating slop.

I've eaten at a few good steak houses on other people's dime. Usually my per diem for work. Never Ruth Chris, but Dale's, the Peddler, the Alamo, that level of place.
Even been in some that clearly state on the menu. "Please do not ask. We refuse to cook our steaks well done as we can not guaranty the quality of the product."
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I know a lot of people that think I am crazy to pay $50-$60 for just a steak at a high end steak house they think that there is no way it can be that much better than a steak from Ryans. "I'd like mine well done, please. No pink at all. And my $99 binoculars are just as good as those fancy Soravaskys, too!"

My favorite Bama steakhouse is Abercrombie's Fish Camp in Clayton, AL. Although I live in Chicago, I hunt in Clayton both for both turkey and deer. For $19.95, you get a prime ribeye, potato with all the fixings, and a salad. And the waitresses there are hotties. Win/Win in my book

Past reviews are awful. For that price should be all 5 stars. Every time I eat a steak out I am sad at price and how sorry it turns out. Somehow my own cooked is twice as good.

It's all about priorities. Different people spend money on different things. My I laws have never been to a fancy place like Ruth's Chris except when I pay, but they were both teachers for 40 years and lived below their means. Now that they are retired, they live in a paid for house overlooking g a spectacular lake in NC. My BIL got divorced and they were able to write a check for a condo to get him back on his feet. It's all about what you choose to spend it on.

I travel +50% with my job. Eating a nice meal is the only way I can tolerate it.
It is hell on the waist though.

My son reminds me that he was with us at Panera Bread the time it cost $40 and I left hungry. I don't remember what he ordered, but he was 18 then and 215 pounds so that may have been where the money went.
As I recall I had a quarter of a dainty sandwich and a half cup of soup -- a tiny meal for sure! I recall thinking Panera was a definitely a place for girls and women.
