Just use a minnow which pretty much catches everything. And yes White perch is a Croppy or Crappy. I forgot about the sac-r-lait name for Cajun croppy.
My dad caught the Alabama State record for a white perch / crappie. It weighed 4 pounds 15 ounces and was only a few oz's off the world record 5 pounds 2 ounces. He caught her on a minnow at Lake Martin off our pier in August. If he would have caught her with the row she would have been the world record. We had a house fire and the mount burnt up. I hate that there isn't a photo somewhere but I remember seeing the mount as a kid and that fishes mouth was huge...
