I just went on an inspection trip for 3 days with a young Puerto Rican engineer we hired straight out of school. He is a good kid and was a fast learner and I think he will be a good asset to our company.
If most Puerto Ricans are anything like this kid, then they're OK in my book.

We'll have to bail out Chicago, California, etc. It's like that bad relative that keeps asking for money. Problem is, we've got too many of those relatives to stay afloat.

Puerto rico gets to vote in the primaries, but does not get to vote in the actual election. They also do not get to elect congressional representatives. I was down there working for a couple months at the beginning of this year, and most of the folks I met were extremely hard working, but the economy in general was in bad shape and getting worse. The local guys I worked with did everything including welding work for 10$ /hour

Yep... The impression I get is that the people are good folks, but their government is pretty crappy... Sounds a lot like the Continental US...
