A friend of mine has had 3 major heart attacks and is physically not able to work. He cannnot get unemployment because being sick doesn't qualify you for that. He has been trying for almost a year to get disability and all he gets is the run around, paper work on top of paper work, doctor letters, hospital files and now the latest they want to send him to see a phycologist.
The man is in late 50's worked all his life and paid into the system and now he may loss everything he's worked for just to survive. Is this really the way that system works?

Can he move to Syria for a year, and then come back on the refugee plan?

Yes, unfortunately so. Yet my wife worked with a woman, who is from a different demographic from your friend I assume, who, while still working, got qualified in one day over the phone. Figure that one out.

I've got an old buddy that worked for SSA until he retired. Now he works for a law firm out of B'ham handling those cases. Good guy and big hunter in a club down here still. I can get his contact info if you need me to. It's not handy at the second.

Yes, this is how it works, unfortunately. Now, everyone is required to see a psychiatrist - it's part of the process to get disability.

He needs an attorney. Generally, down here, if they take your case, they can receive 25% of the retroactive check from the onset date of the disability, up to $6000, for their fee.

My ex-mother in law got 100% disability for varicose veins. It couldn't be because she weighed about 350 without her head.

Got a buddy with crohns disease. he went from healthy to barely able to function in about 5 months. He just got approved for disability 32 months after filing for it. The only good to that is they back pay you from the day you filed.

Been trying two years for my wife. We finally hired a lawyer here in Huntsville. He even says to expect another 12-18 months before SSA will decide. She hasn't been able to work since she broke her neck in 2014.

Yep...I know some folks personally whose only "disability" is being fat, lazy and worthless. Don't work a lick and are on "disability", but somehow manage to go to the beach at least 3 or 4 times/year. The flip-side is I have a family member who legitimately cannot work due to multiple health issues...this person has been trying to get disability for 4 years now, and has even hired legal council, and still has been denied multiple times.

They are quick to give disability to those that won't work anyway. The don't want to give it to those that will work because they have to pay for it.

That's part of it. If you have shown in the past you are willing to work - you will have hard time with the system IMO. If you have been supporting the non working crowd, they really need you to keep working.

I never payed much attention to who parked in handicap parking until my wife came down with MS. If I was a cop I would check some ID. You are supposed to have an ID that matches the handicap placard on your person. Complete physical and paper work signed off by a Doctor every 4 years.

There is a reason for this. This group, even though their disability is physical, will be deemed unfit to own firearms.

I'm for more equal opportunities for mental and physical disabilities. Not necessarily parking places but things such as fishing license. If I'm not mistaken, and I could be, physical disability exempts the individual from having to have a fishing license. Mental disability does not exempt the individual. Fishing may do them some good. I don't fish, maybe I need to. I believe there are some tax exemptions also, such as property taxes, for physical disability and not mental disability. Other than parking ( mental can still walk but so can half the people I see using the parking places), I would like to see benefits more even to help all equally.

This is no kidding around tell him to check is self into a mental health place for about a week.it will make his health look worse and the disability people will really take notice .I know a few people that had to do it to get their attention. When you go sign up for disability the workers there will hand you a big stack of paperwork, and try to push you out the door to tell you to go to all the doctor,s and fill them out.stand your ground, and ask for the head supervisor. That will usually get the ball turning.then you fill out the paperwork the best you can.they should already have your doctor,s address. No need for them to do him that to him.tell him I'm praying thing,s get better.

Move to Dekalb or Cherokee County. I think half the white people who live there are on some kind of disability.

Bingo! My daddy owned his own business for forty years. Kept about eight full time employees. Paid his social security taxes plus matched what his employees paid into it. When he applied for it due to multiple health reasons but mostly from breathing in asbestos he was denied and died a couple of years later. No telling how much money he paid into the scheme all those years and when he needed it they said no. I'm sure a bunch of fat ass democrats are living off of what he paid in.

All right guys so it took me a couple or three gin and tonics to post this. If my attached photo is to nasty then admin please delete. The photo is a screenshot of my tumors that were bursting or bleeding during the month of May. This is an update of my typical month that I send to my SSA lawyer. I am at month 15 and am in limbo awaiting an SSA disability hearing.

To be honest I haven't pitched in for Perchjerker and others financially because I haven't had it to give. I battle daily if I am a bum and can I man up an work but my degenerative gout is constant an unending. I think it makes me a better person as I am humbled and understand others pains and I don't take life for granted. I desperately miss my life outdoors and I hope to be able to at least get outdoors if this ever goes thru. Once again I apologize about the nasty photo but since I consider yall friends I wanted to share.

Kidding aside, get a lawyer and fight for your benefits guys. You earned them and it's a damn shame you have to fight to get em. The VA is the same way. It's like their first course is deny deny deny. There are lawyers who make their living handling these cases and they know how to play the game.
