Honest to God you referenced WIKI as source? That's funny. Go to lunch and ask Lewis why he had a family there introducing themselves as the new owners who had bought him out. I'm not using anything as a source, I'm not trying to prove anything. It's a well known fact.

Ok real talk here jallencrockett, Wikipedia is a very accurate source of information. Yes, information can be updated and added by anyone. However, all added information is peer reviewed and fact checked. I promise that if you were to update a page with incorrect facts, within a few hours it would be changed. Trust me, I've done it.

He might have recently sold it, but he still is a waiter/oyster shucker then. His voice is also still the one on the radio commercial, hear it every morning. It also doesn't change the fact that your point was that it was better on the southern blvd because of different ownership... that's the reason we are discussing it. I was just pointing out same ownership, same menu, better location.

From my recollection of living in driving distance, Montgomery has been called "The Gump" for as long as yuppies have had their own language with terms like yuppie and brewsky. Late 80s to early 90s it seems like.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

JBC aren't you the one that SKINNY said was special? I meant the new ownership as of now. I was well aware of the previous ownership.

Never heard of it.

CAPITOL OYSTER BAR IS WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY OVERRATED. JBC and others must be kids. Capitol Oyster Bar was great on the Southern Blvd but it has a different owner at the Marina.
Fricken Raw Oysters are $19 a Dozen. Oyster bar is a yuppie trap for pretenders. Just run down federal drive till before the river bridge towards Wetumpka to AW SHUCKS prices are one half the oyster bar and food is as good or better. Great wings also.
VICKEYS LUNCH VAN makes about as good of an old fashioned hamburger as you can get. Its about five minutes from the conservation dept off federal drive also. About a mile from the Atlanta Hwy.
Finally please tell me how and when Montgomery became the GUMP. Born and raised here for 51 years and never heard of GUMP till a year ago when young nephew said the same. crap Tuscaloosa being the gump makes sense with Forrest but I have no idea the Montgomery analogy???? I agree about Vickeys. Capital Oyster Bar is still owned by the same guy as when it was on the southern bypass. I see jbc beat me to it.

So I asked my 72 year old mom how long Montgomery has been called the Gump. She is a retired school principal (40 years, retired 5 years ago.). Lived her entire life in Montgomery. She looked me straight in my face and said she had never heard of Montgomery being called the Gump in her entire life. I informed her that she was wrong and that is what it is now known as...Mom replied, well people who worked here all their lives and pay property taxes don't call it the gump... I just laughed.

Well I know about it being called the gump. As far as $19 dollar oysters, Capitol Oyster Bar is selling the select oyster for that price. These are the larger oysters not the snot loogies you get at other places for $10 or so. At least when I went a few weeks ago that was what we got. It is not a fancy place but it is and oyster bar.

All good places mentioned so far, would add Our Place in Wetumpka (the Tump) and Island Delight in Montgomery (the Gump). Killer jerk chicken at Island Delight. Hamburger King downtown is good, Casino in Wetumpka is also good eats.

So I spent the afternoon calling and asking people about the Montgomery Gump nickname. It seems that Jawbone was correct about the Gump nickname coming about in late 80s early 90s. Montgomery and the area north was referred to as Monkeytown on the CB community. Due to political correctness post forest gump (1994) for some unknown reason folks switched to the Gump. So I guess if your 25 to 30 you use the term. Montgomery being the Gump is like Prattville being now "the preferred community", what a joke and great marketing. For us that grew up in Montgomery, Prattville is Chisolm across the river.

Our new favorite lunch spot in Montgomery is Wishbone Cafe which is in the Taylor junction shopping center off Atlanta highway. This guy has put a new spin on Cajun type food and everything I have eaten there has been amazing! We eat there almost every week now. Check them out. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. http://wishbonecafe.weebly.com/index.html
