Not fun. Week or two ago I was complaining to my wife about thinking I had an ingrown arm pit hair. Didn't hurt really bad, but uncomfortable. Well this Saturday morning woke up with a rash. Sunday was worse, this morning had spread up my arm and down my side.
Went to doc and got steroid shot, steroid pills and a steroid cream.
Whole left arm feels like someone slammed it in the truck door, mainly forearm and elbow.
Hopefully it passes sooner rather than later, but I've heard horror stories

My dad had shingles that kept him down, I've never seen him be effected by anything like that. He was up and about right after a quadruple bypass like it was nothing. He went to the hospital 3 times the pain was so bad from shingles.

Shingles? They make my back ache just thinking about getting on the roof. That's why I put metal up last time.

There's now a shingles vaccine. I'd encourage anyone to get one if possible.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I had them in 1999. The pain was nearly unbearable. I don't wish those things on anyone. Shingles and a kidney stone are a toss-up as to which one is worse.
jbc, did the doc not prescribe you Valtrex? Very, very commonly prescribed for shingles. Helps control the outbreak, and helps with the pain.

Get valtrex which treats herpes simplex. Shingles is herpes zoster. So it will help for sure. That and steroids which sounds like you've already had. It also treats cold sores and genital herpes just in case you have an outbreak  If you have insurance it's like $6-10

I had em five years ago, age 60, right shoulder down to right hand and fingers. Worst pain I have ever felt. My nurse wife said I was being a baby and it couldn't hurt that bad. I made her take me to the ER bout ten pm on day three, doc said it was shingles..wife had to apologize. Damnthatstuffhurtslikehell.

The shot is about $230 without insurance. Most insurances require you to be 60 before they'll cover it. Their reasoning is that the shot proved more effective in trials for 60 and over. Some insurances cover 100% of the cost (PEEHIP, TriCare).

I had what I would consider to be a mild outbreak of them, only 3 blisters....all mid-body on my right side. One in front, one on my side, and one on my back. I've had a kidney stone, and like I said previously, even with what I consider to be a mild case of shingles, it's a toss-up for me as to which one was worse. I really feel for those who get them on their head/face.

I paid $175 for the shot several years ago and consider it money well spent. I've seen how much people suffer with them.
