Well, I did something yesterday that I said I'd probably never do again. We raised a pig to eat a little over a year ago. With the smell, the mess, and the destructiveness of that one I thought it wasn't worth it. But the pork chops are awesome and I'm down to only 4 packs so... [img:center]  [/img] I have since sold 1 of the 3 and plan on keeping 2 to feed out this time. We spent no telling how much on feed last time because we tried to do it a more healthy way and bought non-GMO hog feed. It ate that, table scraps, and whatever it could forage. Does anyone have any advice or tips? (Not "don't feed non-GMO") Any place that sells healthy feed at bulk discounted prices? What's the best way to keep them from turning over their water? I remember that being so frustrating because I'd be filling up the water and it'd come turn it over.

You should be able to get lots of free or nearly free feed this summer just feeding them unused produce.
Read the ingredients when buying Non GMO feed. Some people have removed the corn and soy and replaced it with animal byproducts. I'm not an anti GMO person but if I was I would rather eat GMO's than animal byproducts.
Reckon I could rent them for about week to eat the nutgrass in my garden?

Have you tried to just buy a Show pig after show pig season is over? Lots of them out there. We have a sale here in Randolph County at the first of February. Where the kids have the option to sell there pig. Most are 200-325lbs. and bring between $3-500. And all you have to do is carry it to the butcher.. have you looked into buying corn from a local farmer, maybe ear corn also? I wouldn't get to caught up in the "GMO" feed, myself.. Just my opinion. And as far as water. If you don't have a hose you hook up to it, get a 55 gallon drum and put you a pig nipple waterer in it. Or get some 5 to 6 foot long 6" or larger diameter PVC pipe and tap it for a nipple waterer, stand it up in the corner of the pen and tie it upright. put nipple in the bottom. Tractor supply or any farm store should have them.

Last one we raised we bought shelled corn and grain sorghum and had it crushes together. Garden leftovers and got out of date bread from local bread store for nearly nothing. Butcher said it was best looking me he had cut. As far as water try a nipple waterer. They also don't stink as bad cause they don't wallow in spilled water.

Wheat shorts...mix your scrapes and whatever else with and make a slop for them

We feed ours old produce from farmers markets we also fed Them banana tree leaves man did they love those..
