The author, B.J. Welborn? has it in quotations from the works of Simms, a newspaper owner/writer in South Carolina who supposedly witnessed Sherman's march through his State..
I confirmed that it is contained within Simm's work.
As you can tell, sex, rape, etc. was not written about freely & publicly in those days. It was a taboo subject.
While reading Sherman's "Memoirs", I have noticed that nothing was ever his fault. He laid the atrocities on his men or on the Rebels when events went beyond moral bankruptcy during his campaign.
