FB has its warts and users should be wary of some of their "let's all be friends" access ideas. There are ways to block or not accept those, though.

But even better, FB is a good way to keep up with family (including your kids and their friends), old friends you've lost touch with and people elsewhere.

I have friends across the nation I can ask something and get a reply, phone number, info or background on someone. I can see if someone's online and make a phone call, knowing they're there.

For business purposes, if used wisely, Facebook and Twitter are fantastic ways to promote your event, product or keep your name in people's minds.

This site you're on now is nothing more than FB for outdoorsmen. It's all the same -- social media, and "media" in this case is the general term and not "news media" like TV, newspapers or radio. Social media is people getting together in online forums for specific or diverse topics.
