To defend Gen. Sherman by saying his men did stuff he didn't know about is a deliciously sweet cop-out.
They did it while he was in command and he should have been held responsible and hung.
When every bundle of information on Sherman is taken into consideration & context, the Plains Indian Wars and his atrocious comments on killing women and children included, it is as plain as the nose on your face that he was a monster.
I would still enjoy pissing on his grave.
