when folks don't have a legit defense they tend to throw out a lot of other stuff to confuse the issue at hand. Like African civil war, Japs, Germans, President Jackson, slavery, etc., etc, etc.

It is. But that's not the point.

The point is you said you oppose those tactics. Those tactics still happen today.

Just because it happens between black people in an African nation, and nations, doesn't mean it's still not worth opposing. Unless, of course, just because "they" are doing it "over there" then it doesn't really matter.

There is no defense, he was a bad man. But he wasnt the only one of that time and some of his atrocities are also way overblown.

Because these are outlandish claims. The Roswell Women were sent to Indiana. Was it atrocious? Yes. But Sherman didn't salt the fields, or break legs or shoot children because they were snoring. He waged war. That is the defense. Complaining about Sherman is for those that buy into the hysteria and myth. Sheridan marched all down the Shenandoah Valley, The Confederates had the Partisan Ranger Act to promote Guerrilla warfare. Lee killed thousands with a senseless infantry charge. War is cruelty and you cannot refine it.

If you can show proof that Sherman salted fields, shot babies for crying or broke every leg of every man for a march 60 miles wide by 300 miles long then I'll see your side.

Nope, but again they managed to prove the concentration camps in germany existed. As of yet, no proof of again, salting fields, shooting babies, breaking legs.

I think both sides did many things that would get them stood against a wall these days and rightfully so. I can see a time when our military must kill women and kids(such as in bombing raids/cruise missiles) to save lives on our side if it is absolutely necessary, but if they are killed after being captured that is outright murder. During the civil war both sides were guilty right here in north Alabama of war crimes under almost any definition. If you can find a copy ,read the book: Torries of the Hills. It is my favorite book about the war and describes in gory detail some of the stuff that was done to civilians here.

It takes about 1 pound of salt per square foot to kill vegetation. So you are telling me that the union soldiers took 20 tons of salt to kill one acre. The force of 62,000 men carrying 20 pounds of salt each (62,000 x 20 = 1,240,000 pounds of salt) 1 acre = 43,560 square feet / 2000 = 21.78 tons.

This means they killed 28 acres. 60 miles wide x 300 miles long is 18,000 square miles or 11.5 million acres. So they killed 28 acres, and I'm being very generous here since even if they took the salt that was on hand in Georgia they may have killed another 5 maybe 10 acres.

Even if it takes 4 ounces per foot then they may have taken out 100 acres, out of 11.5 million.
