Yesterday was the first full day we had to hunt because of the rain. Yesterday DC was in the birds thick but had the handicap of not knowing the lay of the land and could not get them to come on in. I found a roost tree the evening before so I took Darryl and Hunter (who's missed two birds so far) in there to wait them out. I was going to leave them with it but DC talked me into staying with them. So I sat up behind them and watched behind them so no turkeys would sneak over the hill headed to the tree. Well about 7 pm some gobblers get cranked up a couple hundred yards in front of them and I'm turned around and going to witness the carnage when they arrive. About 40 minutes went by and I look back and see a hen walking up on us. She keeps getting closer and closer and I decided to run her off so she wouldn't bust us. So I picked up a stick and tossed it in her direction and she perked up and squatted in the tall grass. A few minutes go by and I see a turkey head pop up and it was a gobblers head. Well here I am trying to get Hunter and Darryl a shot and I've got one right behind them at 30 yards. I could have spun and shot him but I thought that he might make his way back around to the roost since he wasn't spooked and really didn't know what was going on. Instead he just walked up the hill and flew up in a tree further up the hill. Then to top that off the other gobs never showed. We had a 4 mile hike back to the truck and didn't get back to it until almost 10:30pm.

Darryl set an alarm this morning and it went off at 3:30 am. I got up and went to the bathroom and when I got back the door to our room was locked and I could hear snoring through the door. I beat on the door three or four times and they never answered. So I laid down on the couch in the lodge to wait for them to get up. It is now 11:09 am and I still haven't heard from them.

BC may need to just make BH84 sleep in the truck from now on. At least he won't oversleep that way.

This is true. I have woke up several times after a nap and look outside to make sure it wasn't dark.
