What I've found works best is:

good thermal base layer (I like Under Armor Cold Gear)
1 single pair of good, Merino Wool Socks
Fleece midlayer top and bottom (my pants are $7 fleece Russell sweatpants from Academy and they're perfect)
Insulated outer layer of your choice - I just go with bibs and a windproof jacket.
1000 gram Lacrosse Alpha-burly's.

seems to work great without being too bulky.

most important things to me are:
1. a wind/waterproof outer layer
2. Fleece is unbeatable for a mid-layer
3. 1 pair of socks so that your feet have room inside your shoe (you might think that a 2nd pair of socks = warmer, but if it makes your shoe too tight, you'll actually get colder)

I wear scent lok base layer with regular Carhartt camo pants and long sleeve Carhartt t-shirt over them. I usually carry heavy Carhartt jacket tied around my waist as I walk to my stand. Keeps me nice and warm.

Blue jeans and a carhart jacket. If it's real cold, I put the hood on.

I like fleece underneath and good windproof jacket and bibs. Fleece face mask/hood. Hand warmers in lots of pockets if it's really cold. My vest has pockets in back for hand warmers.

My basic rules: Thickness beats technology every time. A thick $50 BassPro jacket is warmer than a thin $500 Sitka jacket with space-age windblocker material. Much in the same way the old saying is true "No replacement for displacement".

I bought a Sitka fanatic suit this past fall and love it....its honestly almost too warm for BAMA but I don't like layers....I hunted a day with a high in the mid 30s with a strong N/NE wind with nothing but a baselayer and the Sitka suit and stayed toasty warm.

flawed logic.... #turbocharger, it's why a 3.0L twin turbo Supra will destroy cars with twice the displacement.

but, that's neither here nor there grin

Hello, I like to layer up $1k worth of hiking clothing ride my mountain bike and eat a couple power bars on the way to the stand, maybe eat a salad at lunch if I don't forget my man purse/pack and hit some gluten free mixed nuts in there at some point so as to not mess up my digestive system while I'm waiting on that monster buck....

Hit the gym on the way back to the house of course.

Sincerely,

The guy that sold you that overpriced Sitka gear and has now started another company trying to double down on your wallet.

True, true! laugh (I sold the last Supra that Sunny King Toyota in Anniston ever sold. Them suckers would scream!) Oh, there's some recent YouTube video of a suspected new release Supra... oh dear mercy it's sharp!!

Looks like a Ferrari Enzo and a Lexus LF8 had a love child. (and I mean that in a really GOOD way)

Staying warm is as easy as 1,2,3.

1. Moisture wicking layer (polypro, merino wool, etc. NO cotton)
2. Insulating layer (thinsulate, fleece, goose down, etc - all good choices, some bulkier than others)
3. Weather proofing layer (goretex, waxed canvas, etc - any windproof/waterproof outerwear)
