crenshawco, just curious but have you done much climbing in those and if so, how'd they do? I'm down to the Chippewa or the Cabela boas and would appreciate the feedback. I primarily hunt the Talledega NF and to say it's hilly is an understatement, of course nothing like those guys that get after them at Skyline are dealing with but still pretty rough. So ankle support and stability are a necessity. Thanks.

They could use a more aggressive sole for climbing, but I get by. Now I don't need alot of ankle support, so I'm not sure if they are actually providing what you would need. Took me about 2 weeks wearing them to work to get them broke in good...they are pretty stiff at first.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. When I say ankle support I mean more than a muck style boot provides while climbing. I've been wearing a 9" lace up hiking boot which works great but doesn't provide much protection from snake bites. I'm tired of risking it and am getting on the snake boot train next season, I just need to make sure I can climb those hills with them. Thanks again for the info.

Hate to hear that about your Danner's. This my 8th year with my Danner pronghorns and I haven't had any issues with them leaking or anything else. I had problems with several other brands prior to these though.

Lacrosse snake boots..... Knee boot rubber style. They are comfortable and have a lot of support with the more rigid sides.

I've got the Irish Setter vapor trek snake boots, $200 and my feet get wet walking through wet grass crossing a creek and im full of water. Also the insoles didnt make it one season. They are comfortable though.

They are comfortable though. I don't care how comfortable they are if they leak!!! I REALLY hate getting my feet wet while hunting. Looks like the Chippewas or Mucks are the only hope. Sucks bad that a company can't or won't make a waterproof boot that's not rubber.

I have a pair of the Danner Fowler 10" goretex boots and they are really comfortable. That being said a water puddle won't let water in, but wet grass sure will.

Any non rubber boot is gonna leak how quick vAries with time and miles. I have a pair of jackals and pronghorns, jackals being my favorite of the two. Rustolem offers a great water barrier if needed. It's mostly a goretex prob and not boot design prob, I think goretex only offers a year warranty.

In my experience Gore-Tex is useless in a boot. Gore-Tex is only superior to other water barriers, like a sheet of plastic for example, because of its ability to "breathe." It works fairly well in jackets and hats, and marginally well in pants, but in the dirty environment of a boot, it fails. So, the only way to waterproof a boot is to either make it out of a non-permeable material like rubber, or a permeable one like leather and coat it with so much wax that all the pores are sealed. Either way your feet are going to sweat if you are exerting yourself. Bring dry socks.
