That one in Uniontown is the worst. And you don't have to be speeding to get pulled over for speeding. Last time they pulled me over I had the cruise set on 55 coming through that 65 zone. Know it's a trap so I make it a point to keep the cc set 10mph under. Had a tractor trailer passing me and another trying to drive into the bed of my truck when we all met the popo topping that little hill. Sure enough, he pulls me over and says I'm doing 70mph.
I thought I was going to jail that day. Only time I've ever lost my temper with a policeman. He asked me why I was so nervous and I said, "nervous hell! I'm pissed! I wasn't going 70mph. I know this is a trap so why the he$$ would I be running 70 through here!"
He finally told me to calm down and sent me on my way. I considered myself lucky LOL I can tell you that he wasn't Radar certified and didn't understand how they work. If he was using radar the reading came from the biggest and fastest vehicle.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

If he was using radar the reading came from the biggest and fastest vehicle. I always figured he either hit the semi passing me or was just guessing at the speed. Either way, he pulled me just cause I was easy to get. Now why he changed his mind and didn't issue the ticket I'll never know. Wouldn't have been any way I could have fought it cause me going to contest a ticket down there would have just been a waste of time surely.

My favorite of the four that I've gotten over the years though was on country club road in Decatur. Cop stopped and gave me a ticket on foot. He was hiding behind some lady's azaleas and stepped out in the road with his hands up to stop me. 40 in a 35. And he was right. I was doin 40 cause I never saw a sign telling me what the limit was so I was just guessin.

Ya'll remember when Admasville was rated #1 in Tripple A magazine as one the worst in the country. It was back in the 70's, early 80's if I remember right.

Have driven slowly along CCR at/about midnight or later before spotlighting ditches looking for frogs to gig. Glad that SuperCop wasn't hidin' in the bushes then but I kept waiting for the blue lights and "WTH? Frog gigging?" response.

We were paving a parking lot in Graysville in the early 90's and I was talking to one of their officers. I asked if they had much trouble up that way because we worried about leaving equipment and he told me that if they got through Adamsville the bad guys' were to wore out do anything their.

I was headed up towards Jasper one day to meet my Lt, he called and needed assistance arresting a fella he was fighting. I turned on the lights a mashed the gas thru Graysville. Local cop across the road pulled out behind me and turned on his lights. Heck, I wasn't stopping for him and held it down. Lt called and said he had it under control so I pulled over as Barney was still behind me.
I walked back to the car(I'm in uniform, in a marked state truck, lights on) and ask how he's doing. He replies he was doing fine till some idiot came thru HIS town speeding. He had his ticket book out and was writing in it. WTH??? I just turned around, got in my truck and kept on keeping on........

I heard the Decatur city council has told the PD to hold trucks to zero tolerance as far as the "truck routes". Even heard the people delivering to the new jail called them and told them they couldn't deliver to the new jail without getting a ticket.

Decatur PD DOT is worse than the state DOT ever thought about being. They are really bad. I tried a case a couple of years ago up there for a driver that was arrested for disorderly conduct and assaulting an officer after a "dot inspection" by one of their officers. They were using the stops as an excuse to search trucks. When he objects and started arguing with them, they arrested him. Good thing they forgot all responding cars had cameras. Because the one in the arresting officers car "was broken". I got another officer to admit his was on and got the tape to show the jury. My client was aquitted. But, not before he lost his job and was out thousands of dollars. Their officer looked like a fool when I was done with him.

So I have a question about traffic camera's what is the process for those to be approved and who is responsible? Does the city council, police department, or some state entity approve them?
I have heard that companies handle everything for and just give the city a portion of the proceeds to the city? Is this true?

Yep company comes in a gives a portion of the proceeds. City pays for equipment and power. The thing is after a couple months of ticket writing people are aware and don't speed or make sure they come to a complete stop they start losing money. I read an article a few years ago where one city started losing 8k a month after the 2nd month.

There is a fight going on about the legality of traffic tickets given out by the cameras in the state of Alabama. Alabama law doesn't give municipal governments any jurisdiction over civil matters and those tickets are not a criminal matter, they are civil.
They are not criminal because Alabama law doesn't allow a misdemeanor arrest by an officer without a warrant and without him witnessing the crime except under very limited circumstances. (DUI and domestic violence are two two most common)
The courts in some counties (Jefferson being one) have ruled them unconstitutional. Some counties allow them. to my knowledge, no one has ever appealed one past circuit court.
