Came through Brantley late one night and there were a couple kids around the dummy car...they were putting a wig and lingerie on the mannequin in the car. I've also seen "him" with the seat tipped back and his hat down over his eyes, and a couple humorous signs hung on the car.

Castleberry's never bothered me. Repton is terrible, Georgiana isn't far behind them...and going the other direction, Clayhatchee used to be pretty bad, too.

Between Grove Hill and Thomasville on 43 used to be insane for speed traps. I haven't seen nearly as many cops through there as there used to be lately.

That dang Fulton cop got me one night coming home from T-town my junior year in 1990.

Got to meet Big Sam (I think that was his name) one night coming back to T-town after going to The Club in Columbus one Thursday night. Luckily, I wasn't driving.

My definition of a speed trap isn't an area simply patrolled all the time with speeders ticketed.

Places like Uniontown drop the speed from 65 to 35 with no warning and the cop is sitting there at the speed limit sign and tickets you before you can slow down.

Hampers filled used to do the same thing. I do t know that they are as bad as the used to be since their courts were shutdown by the state for racketeering.

I don't see how you can have a speed trap on the interstate. The speed limit is consistent.

Sumiton paved a pull off lane on 78 right past town so 18 wheelers and cars would have a place to pull over when they got lit up with the blues.

I know they are hitting it pretty hard on 84 coming through Grove Hill. I got pulled over and given a warning this past deer season. Seldom I passed there headed home on a Sunday evening and didnt see someone pulled over on that stretch of 84

Used to be this way in Harpersville, but I haven't been down that way in a while.

Autaugaville on Hwy 14 heading east does the same thing. Speed limit is 55 then when you crest a hill it suddenly drops to 45 without any "speed zone ahead" signs. Unless you know it is coming it is virtually impossible not to speed. I don't think they have a PD anymore though and the state and county don't seem interested in running a trap there.

I wouldn't call it a speed trap necessarily, although it serves the same purpose, but the stretch of highway 59 between Robertsdale and Gulf Shores is the most frustrating road to drive I've ever been on. I've never been through there, at any time day or night, when I didn't have to stop at pretty much every stinking red light, and there are plenty of them to stop at.

West Jasper right as you exit I-22, from interstate to divided 4 lane and its 40 or 45mph all they way to Bull building supply. I have had two speeding tickets in 22 years the last one I got here on Memorial day 4-5 years ago. They had two officers working that little revenue generator. Stopped me going 53, literally pulled out from writing someone a ticket and directly to me, then as soon as mine was finished in behind another. I watched these two write 6 tickets in the 10 or so minutes I was there.

We use to stop and buy fuel in jasper every Friday and Sunday on our way to and from Auburn to Hamilton. Haven't stopped there since the ticket and will do my best to never spend another dime in that town.

I understand speed enforcement for safety but purely to generate revenue is ridiculous its no different than a tax. The city of Auburn is the same way to many officers, I know they were busted a few years ago for one of the officers recording the chief discussing quotas in staff meeting. I still do some consulting work in Auburn and I cant tell you how many times I have been stopped coming from the lab late at night just to see if they could find someone drinking etc.

Isn't it a state law that speeds cannot be reduced by a certain amount immediately like this, or they cannot be reduced quickly in succession -- like 55 mph to 45 mph to 35 mph within, say a half-mile -- to help prevent situations like this extreme reduction?

Seems I recall that being stated on here a time or two.

Common in college towns, IMO, because they know (a) college students won't resist or complain about something like "you were crossing the line" or "your tag light is out" and (b) they can nail college students drinking enough times that the means justify the end.

Not condoning drinking and driving, but we've had this "lot of cops think they can do anything and get away with it because they can" discussion before. It sucks no matter what it is, be it ticky-tack stops or speed traps or whatever.
