Why in the world do my rights have to be infringed upon in order for me to stand up for them....?

Pardon me for misquoting myself... In the previous post, I said "You don't have to have something happen to you in order to stand up for your's and other people's rights."
Emphasis there on other people's rights being infringed upon. Why can I not stand up for other people?
