My grandson has been wearing the bass out every evening between 6 and dark so I thought it was time for me to try um. I went out of the boat house at straight up 6 oclock, didn'td even crank the motor just started fishing caught 4 keepers by 6:15, hooked another pretty good one, a spot, don't even know what he was doing up in the slew. I lifted him into the boat, reached and got him by the back laid the rod down(line slack) and that sog slipped through my hand and one of the treble hooks went to the bend, in the palm of my hand. I cut the line loose and came back accross the slew and was in the house at 6:30.
I lifted some numbsit when my wife was in the hospital last year for just such an occasion. Put a little on and couldn't pull it back out so my wife split it with a razor blade and out she came.
Dammit man, first time I have done that in at least 50 years.

Dam! Do you get too old to fish?
That sucker was in the heal of my hand, luckily it was the left hand. That skin there is pretty tough after 72 years of hard labor. It didn't hurt after I got that numbsit on it for a few seconds. Didn't bleed any either except where my wife cut it and it bled like the devil there.
Not a bit sore this morning. First thing I am gonna do is go to Riverside OUtdoors and get me a set of those "fish pliers" and go after um again if it don't start raining.

There's a trick to getting a hook out neatly, but I can't describe as well as I can show it...
Glad you got it out with minimal damage, though! I got hooked in the head a few years ago by 2 of the points on a treble hook...that was bad!

DorA, I sure would like to know what that trick is. I have seen the string thing and I know you gotta push it down away from the barb, and back but it never works for me. That ole palm of the hand is just too tough.

Ain't but three ways to get them out.
1. Just like you did
2. the string trick (loop a string in the bend of the hook, push down with one finger on the eye of the hook, pull the sting)
or
3. finish hooking yourself (push the barb through the skin so your hook and the cut the barb off so you can back the hook out)
They all pretty much suck

The only time this hasn't worked for me was when I had two barbs of a treble hook imbedded in my skull...because the hooks come from different angles, snatching one out backwards would've only torqued the other out sideways...had to go to the ER to get that one removed.
