Not a fire hazard. Most of those tables have an inch or so of clearance around the grill. I bet it never tops 120 degrees on wood.

Yeah, probably. I'm strongly considering building a table/nest for mine and ditching the legs/wheels completely. Something like this:

Just my opinion. But, that grill shouldn't be hanging in the hole like that. It needs to be sitting on a shelf with room around it. My egg has feet, but I put fire bricks under my dad's when I built his table.

Can't do that. Ash tray is the very bottom capsule, so if it's resting on something you won't be able to remove it.

The outer shell/body of the Akorn is steel, not ceramic, so there's no chance of it cracking or anything. You also cannot just sit it on something - the bottom is removable for dumping ash. The general consensus on most forums where people have nested them is that having it set in the hole like that won't cause any damage. Some will line the opening with felt just to keep it from scratching, but others don't. With that said, I did see one build where there was about a 1/4" gap all the way around. When they removed the folding wings from the grill, the left the brackets that held the wings and used them to mount to the table itself, so that the grill just hung in the opening. That's probably how I'd do mine.

Didn't know that about the ashes. That is different then the ceramic grills. They don't have a bottom that comes off. So, does the bottom screw off or something?

There's a latch on either side of it that it hooks onto and clamps down. Has a thick seal just like the lid so it doesn't leak air. Makes getting the ashes out a breeze.

I heard the green eggs can get hot enough to burn up all the ashes therefore you never have to empty them, that's where the extra $$$ come into play.

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.
