I shot a 300WinMag for 15+ years and never had one problem with killing deer with it. From right under my tree out to 350 yards, it just killed deer. I never noticed problems with the bullet not expanding at short distances. 150gr Hornady spire point.

Never killed a deer more dead or less dead than any other caliber I've ever used.

If that's what you want to shoot, practice with it to acquire the confidence you need in the rifle and hunt with it. This "too much gun" crap is ridiculous. If you can stand the recoil, have at it.
