Anybody else had a LongBeard mis-fire on 'em? Wondering if they're like a Ford; the minute you brag on 'em, they let you down?
I had a coyote come into my setup & pulled the trigger on my 870 to kill him... And, nothing happened at first... Started to hear a "hissing" sound & smoke started to boil out of the chamber.. Then a weak-*ss *fart* like one of those party poppers make & my shot spray/spilled out the end of the barrel...
It's from a brand new package, but it was wet/damp this morning after the rain... I've kept both my gun & ammo inside & dry, like I always do... Sure was glad it did this on a coyote & not a deg'gum bird... I shucked another into the chamber & fired it & it did like it was supposed to...

damn that's pretty scary
No chit!! When the smoke started to boil out of it, I thought I was shooting a black powder gun! Freaked me out ... & the coyote!
As glorious as the LB's are, if they start doing this crap, I'm done with 'em.

I can't say I've ever heard that exact thing described before. I'd be pretty upset. Calls would be made.
Ya, I've never had a shell do this to me before; if it happens again, for sure, I'll be contacting Winchester asap. I had one of their Supreme's fail to fire, after the pin hit the primer perfectly, with a gobbler right in front of my jake deke several years ago (10+ years back). I threw my gun across the pasture on that one.

Reminds me of a dove shoot my dad and I were on when I was about 13. He was shooting some old Ted Williams shells he got from Sears. He was getting pissed because he hadn't so much as drawn a feather all day. Then he got to looking when he shot. There was a pile of wads maybe 10 ft out in front of him from all the shooting he had done. I'm surprised the shot made it out of the barrel. lol.
Thats crazy!! I can't figure out why it would smoke like that....
So did you get the yote???

When the pelletized powder first came out for muzzleloaders I jumped on the train. Sighted it in and never had a minutes trouble out of it. Hunting my climber one morning on a drizzly day, I loaded up with 100 grains and stuffed a 250gr powerbelt down the barrel. Shortly after sunrise I was miserable from getting wet and decided I'd shoot the first doe that gave me a chance. I lined up on a doe about 100 yards out soon after and touched off the trigger. Heard some hissing and then two trails of smoke flew out of my barrel about 25-30 yards and hit the ground smoldering. They looked like smoke bombs down on the damp ground for several seconds. I'm not sure who was more surprised...me or the doe.
Good luck with your call to Winchester. Hopefully they will make it right.
I hope Winchester treats you right because I'd be highly upset if that had cost me a bird.

I had it happen with a Remington Premier last weekend. Never had a Winchester misfire. I called a bird across a pasture a few years ago, and had a Hevi shot go bloop, and the pellets rolled out of the barrel. You never know what you're getting from any manufacturer now a days. Cost downs and quality are probably the issue, and the manufacturer doesn't care.
That Premier that misfired last weekend, I had shot 4 shells out of the box with no issue, but found another one after the misfire, that wouldn't go off in 2 different guns.
