It never happens, but I had a chance to go before work this morning. I found a gobbler Sunday morning, and couldn't get in front of him. slipped across a clear-cut before first light this morning and set up where he went Sunday. he gobbled twice in the tree where he was supposed to be. once he hit the ground he gobbled once at a woodpecker, I threw out a few clucks and a yelp and sat tight. I could hear him gradually scratching his way to me in the leaves for about 30 min. Then I ran into a problem, I had run out of time and had to GO to work. I was able to slip out and circle back around the knoll I was on without spooking him. Just wish I had more time!!! Well that sucks. Maybe you can get back in there soon and finish him off.

Dang. Sounds like you did well slipping out
I messed up with a rookie mistake Sunday morning. Heard one gobble mid morning close, caught me off guard and didn't know exactly where he was. I yelped once and he hammered it. I knew exactly where he was and exactly how to get there quick. I moved over to the road he was on and got set up and yelped once,... He gobbled again, but was exactly where I just was. He must have been hard up for it because he covered some ground quick.
I stayed put and called a little more and he kept gobbling and kept closing ground.
I see him coming, through the thick stuff. Safety off, he's full strut, going to wait for him to either come out of strut or gobble and extend neck and bust him...
All of a sudden out of nowhere, a gobble closer than I've ever had a bird gobble at me from directly behind me. Less than 10 feet. Clearly the dominant bird, because bird I had in sights dropped strut turned and left.
Now this bird behind me continues to gobble and spit right behind me, I considered the spin and shoot move, but that never works. at one point I could see him strutting in corner of my eye.
I never moved, he realized something was off and just eased back down the road he came in on.
It was as good of a hunt without killing one I've ever been on.
Went back Tuesday and Wednesday before work, heard a few but nothing that I could do before work.
Have been home the last two days with a sick baby, RSV, which is horrible btw.
Going to bullock county tomorrow morning, will be back at Line Creek Saturday and Sunday.
We need to get on the board

We need to get on the board I'll bet that was fun though. As far as getting on the board, my season doesn't open until April 1.... with that said, if I do kill one it'll be beginners luck but I'll take that any day of the week!

Got us one this morning guys, been chasin this dirty sob since opening week, always passin by at 80 yds with hens or a steady walk goin else where, well it all ended after ive seen him walk through a section of open timber everytime hes stopped gobbling. I let him stop gobbling and i stopped calling, at 8:10 i got up to go look down an open road bed with my binos and there he was standing in the road headed straight to me, i let him walk to 35 yds and let him eat it. First of the season finally

Good job 3blades! I've got 10 days off starting on April 1. Hopefully I can find some birds in Madison county willing to play the game.

I went to pull a camera yesterday at the lease, it was 2:45, I pulled into the gate parked and just grabbed my gun and a mouth call just in case. I went about 75 yards up the road onto a knoll and yelped on the mouth call and one gobbled once way off about 6-700 yards near a greenfield. I figured he would come up the road, so I sat up 20 yards off to the right side of the road. I threw out a few more yelps and sat tight gun up. 20 mins later I start to hear drumming NOT in the road but in the woods to my right. I spin on the tree a little shuffling the leaves and the drumming starts to get real loud. I get down on the stock and see him out of the corner of my right eye slipping by at 45 yards through the underbrush. I couldn't swing my on him, and he slipped by and over a rise, I spin all the way around the tree and scratch in the leaves a few times and hear him start drumming again on and off. 10 mins go by and he gobbles about 75 yards down in the bottom at a truck going by on the county road. next time I heard him he was across the county road off our property.
Well, the way I see it is there's just too many assholes On a good day there's a bunch of assholes in here. On a bad day there's too many assholes in here.

Had my 4 yr olds with me yesterday when we went to check cameras. Stopped in a green field and called and a turkey gobbled. We gave him about 10 minutes before the kids got restless and tired of sitting in the bushes. Eased out and left him there. He had several hens with him it sounded like and he gobbled 3 or 4 times while we were there. Will slip in on him fri or sat morning. I may need to leave him for seed since there appear to be about 3 turkeys on our 1200 acres this year.

Well fella's I went on my first ever turkey hunt this morning. Didn't kill one but I did have one gobbling! That was fun, but then he shut up and I later found out why... bobcat. Had him at 15' and was about to take him out when he finally turned and exited stage left. It was cool watching him that close though (fromcthe comfort of being BEHIND a Remington 1187!
Gonna give it another go tomorrow morning.
