I've always wanted to be able to take a bird from our place here at the house, but have never had birds around. About 3 years ago I started getting a few hens on camera and it has progressed from there until I felt good about finally trying it this season.

I decided to slip back to a Greenfield this evening and on the way in I spotted a couple hens feeding in the neighbors field. I figured they probably weren't alone so I slipped around and set up on our field next to it. After about 30-40 minutes I decided to pull the slate out and he cut me off mid call. I could hear him drumming after that but couldn't see him for a big row of tall grass between us. This went on for a while and I decided to cut at him some and he cut me off both times but was farther down the field. He suddenly popped out on the far end and took his sweet time strutting the length of the field to me.
Was a terrific evening hunt and meant a lot. First bird with tss, first one on my own land, and first one with the 870 that used to be my dad's.
20.5 lbs 9.75 inch beard and one 1 inch sharp and one either formerly broken or messed up spur. It turned the wrong way.

Congrats, Gib! That's not a messed up spur......that's what you call a non-typical Gobbler! Great job!

That's great! I know the feeling! I literally had tears in my eyes after killing my first bird on my own property. Special day and I'm really happy for you!

Thanks guys. Was a long wait(almost 20 years) but worth it in the end.
