The jack stands should work fine. Most equipment trailers have feet on the ramps so that when a tractor or whatever gets on the ramp, the trailer squats and the feet hit the ground. Without something under the arse end of the trailer it puts a tremendous amount of stress on the ball and trailer hitch.
