antivenom is pretty expensive and sometimes it takes a LOT to counteract a bite.
Yeah that and risking losing a foot or leg should motivate one to wear boots or chaps and watch your step. We're spoiled here in South Florida in that Miami Dade county has a venom response unit that responds throughout the state to get anti venin to victims at the hospital. But if you're bit out in the wilderness and have a long trek to a hospital you risk losing a limb even with a venom response unit in your region. If the anti venin works you also have to worry about infection from those rat and frog eating bastages.
