we've had 3.5 months of season for decades , nobody is gonna go for shortening. If the data and biology support shortening it, though, that should be a consideration. One of the worst things ever is "That's the way we've always done it." I've been guilty of supporting this attitude on some things but when you truly consider it vs. other options, it's not always a sound practice. ^^^^^^this
