I've always enjoyed government and political study, especially trends in elections. So I've really been paying attention more than usual because Trump is "defying political gravity" to quote Hannity. It makes little common sense, but that shouldn't be so surprising in today's cultural climate.

Ted Cruz in my mind is the only candidate in the race that has a shot that is a True Conservative, man of Faith and Conviction, is fervent in defending the Constitution, and understands why the Progressive Agenda spending machine needs to be stopped.

But, apparently too many people in too many states disagree with his ideas and qualities. Cruz is no longer gaining traction, but slipping once other candidates dropped out. The 3 way race (Trump, Rubio, Cruz) going into Super Tuesday is not a good thing...at best it would be 3 candidates around 30% each....even worse since 10-15% will go to Carson and Kasich combined. Trump has everything to gain with the ticket so split. Cruz has everything to lose because his momentum is gone. Rubio is still a pretender but doesn't realize it yet....the split hurts him too.

I'm seriously dumbfounded. I guess I'm not as intuitive or as smart as I thought I was. The entire Trump mania is a mystery still. But maybe not, because any country that could elect Obama twice would surely be dumb enough or misinformed or corrupt enough to elect Trump once.

So Congrats Trump fans and supporters.
Congrats to the so-called conservatives who are abandoning principle to support hype, pomp and circumstance.
Congrats to so-called evangelicals who will support a character like Trump.
Super Tuesday will be your day. After that, the primary will be all but over and on to picking the VP. Enjoy it.

Trump/Rubio. Look for it. Rubio's shot solidified in 8 years. Maybe I'm wrong or just butt hurt my guy isn't as strong as I wished. Perhaps it is both

Cruz would have been better off if he hadn't been a senator the last 3 years. The people don't care that he was the only one fighting cronyism and corrupt government. They only know that he's part of government, right now.

People are so angry with government that they stood up and cheered when someone with a little power stood up and gave the status quo the middle finger. They loved all the bravado and tough talk. They got behind the movement and pushed him to the front. They never asked themselves why he's held every liberal position that Hillary has. They refused to listen to anything negative even if the words came from Trumps own lips.

I can't blame people for being angry. I can't even blame them for getting caught up in the initial frenzy of the campaign. I can blame them for abandoning logic and conservative principles because of their blind anger. I can blame them for ignoring the red flags that have been too numerous to count. But, you know what? I won't. I blame the establishment for creating the environment where a liberal can win the nomination using a couple of conservative hot button issues.

I'm not baffled at all. I completely understand the anger even if I don't understand the unwillingness to research the candidate. These are interesting times and even though I don't like Trump I find it fascinating that everything we know about political history is being challenged in this cycle. Our country will never be great again and that's ok because even though this chapter in history is coming to a close, I know how the whole story ends and it's all going to turn out fine.

Using the example of Obama is still baffling to me. Obama is possibly the most successful president in the history of this great nation, in pushing through his agenda. He has done EXACTLY what he said that he was going to do.

Show me his failings as president. Not from YOUR or My perspective, but from those that voted for Obama.

I agree with you. Obama has probably been the most effective president of my lifetime in forwarding his agenda.

Cruz shot himself in the foot by having people on his staff which ran a dirty campaign. This was contrary to who he claims to be and who many seem to believe he is. What is showed me is that his ethics is questionable. He was my second choice but as of now I just don't trust him either. If he hires those types to run his campaign he will hire them to help run his administration.

Very interesting data and would explain why Trump supporters can't be swayed no matter what information they receive after they've made their choice. I hadn't thought of what would happen if there were another terrorist attack but I believe the author is spot on in his assessment that Trump would garner even more support in the aftermath. Political Science experts are scratching their heads in this election cycle and I wouldn't be shocked at anything that happens going forward.

The GOP establishment created this environment and Trump has capitalized on the anger being generated. I expect to see the GOP go nuclear on Trump in an effort for a brokered convention where they can push in Rubio. This would result in endless litigation and leave the door open for Clinton. I am convinced the GOP would rather have Clinton over Trump. Up to now they have all underestimated Trump - will be interesting to see what they try next. I have to admit I do enjoy watching the pundit's heads explode while trying to explain why Trump is about to fail.

People are sick of politicians. We finally got a GOP controlled House and Senate that have done absolutely NOTHING to counter act the liberal agenda of the Obama administration.

This is why Trump is so popular. The establishment had their chance and blew it!!! I have zero sympathy. Reap it!!

Dr. Bill Bennett was a Reagan appointee and is very politically astute. He wrote an Op Ed piece that predicts the Washington establishment will kill Trump before allowing him to become President. I'm not from the tinfoil hat crowd but I may become one if Trump dies under mysterious circumstances between now and election.

This is correct. Trump is 180 degrees from what every other politician has represented in many years. He's not politically correct, he says what a lot of even the members here want to hear. I'm not surprised one bit at the support he has raised.

Now Cruz is my pick, but part of me would like to see Trump get the nod and win the election. It's about the only thing that may get the GOP to finally open their eyes. In addition I could see it causing an uprising of sorts with other elections (Senate and Hiuse) where some of these career politicians get the boot.

I also think he would TRY and stimulate the economy in some way simply because a better economy would make him more money. Regardless of his reasons a better economy would help all of us.

Im sick and tired of these govt establishment arseholes pushing THEIR candidate on us every time.

Kinda like giving them the middle finger and letting them eat chit for a change instead of us voters.

All of yall that are sick of the establishment and mad are just like me. But picking a liberal to run the country does not make any sense, when you could give the establishment the middle finger by choosing a constitutionalist in Cruz. This would piss of the establishment and get us back to where we need to be following the constitution and appointing great justices who won't compromise. Hopefully that would happen with trump as well but history does not support that thought.

Some of the guys that are part of the "establishment", Trump has donated money to them many times over the course of their careers. Ted Cruz has literally fought these people every single day that he has been in Washington, DC. I don't understand the argument that Trump isn't a career politician. He has lined their pockets for years.

Oh Im voting Cruz when we vote. But if he doesnt make it to the general...ill vote for the republican that does.

And Cruz has taken money just like the rest of them. Actually he has taken more this cycle from the big crony donors than anybody not named Clinton or Bush.

Maybe he he has, but he has fought and fought just like he told the people of Texas he would. He has done a tremendous job of keeping his word. Win or lose he is the best man in the race.

And there isn't a person even close.

Anyone who says they enjoy political study sounds like a sewer rat to me. Who enjoys bs like that?
