I much prefer my muzzleloader. It's good to at least 170yards which is about 100 yards further than I can reliably hit with MY shotgun and slugs. Some of my best hunting each year is in that 5 day special season before rifle season opens. As you mentioned, there are several other states where, if you like to travel to hunt, you will have more options with a muzzleloader in the safe.
