Whats the odds of him putting a Muslim on the bench?

Might be time to go buy whatever guns you may want. It`s probably going to get ugly in the future.

Whats the odds of him putting a Muslim on the bench? it'd be better for us if he did because it'd galvanize the country to rally harder.

Whats the odds of him putting a Muslim on the bench? This seems improbable. A supreme court justice has to actually have some credentials. How many qualified Muslim jurists are there?

He's got one on the short list already. I think I saw on CBS this AM some likely nominees and one sure looked and sounded Muslim to me.

If you're talking about Sri Srinivasan, he's Hindu.

I just read on Fox that article 2 section II of the Constitution gives the ores the authority to fill all vacancies during a recess. That's not good as both house and senate are in adjournment at present. This gives him about 2 weeks he could appoint without confirmation.
Finally deported myself from the peoples republik of Kaliforkistan.

I think the SC already ruled recess appointments can only be made during long.recesses. Doesn't mean he won't try and it doesn't mean the Rino leaders aren't already sending him messages to do it so they can claim they had no way to stop it. The right thing for Republican leadership to do is to reconvene first thing tomorrow. I.doubt they will.

No. For all the hatred and suspicion some of y'all have for Obama, I don't believe he'd circumvent the process for a Supreme Court seat by executive action.
Believe it if you wish, though.

There is a ray of hope: ...Two senators seeking the Republican presidential nomination, Ted Cruz of Texas and Marco Rubio of Florida, both said unequivocally that the Republican-controlled Senate should ignore any nomination sent by Mr. Obama to Capitol Hill. “The president can nominate whoever he wants, but the Senate is not going to act, and that’s pretty clear,” Mr. Rubio said on “Fox News Sunday.” “So, we can keep debating it but we’re not moving forward on it, period.” In an interview on ABC’s “This Week,” Mr. Cruz, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said: “Let the election decide it. If the Democrats want to replace this nominee, they need to win the election.”... Full article: Times article

Alito: Nominated 31 Oct, confirmed Jan the next year
Roberts: Nominated in Jul, Rehinquist died in Sep, Bush withdrew Roberts as an associate justice and re-nominated him as Chief Justice, Bush asked the senate to expedite to fill the court for the start of the court calendar....confirmed in Sep
Sotomayor: Nominated in May, confirmed in Aug
Kagan: Nominated in May, confirmed in Aug
As much as I would like to believe they will be able to delay the nomination until after the election I doubt they will be able to based on the past few.... correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe with Sotomayor and Kagan the Senate was controlled by the dems, all the Republicans could have done is delay the vote, so it's possible the Republicans could delay or even vote and deny the nomination this time since they control the Senate .
