Thinking about cutting two dog woods and a smaller sweet gum tree. But don't want to have a eyesore in the front yard. How much will it cost to get it done? Or can I rent one and do it myself?

Just cut it as low as possible with a chainsaw and do a "cut stump" treatment with herbicide so it doesn't grow back. No need for a stump grinder unless you just want it.

Three small stumps shouldn't cost much over $100.00. Most of the small machines they rent are crap. If you had 50 stumps I'd say pay up and rent a big grinder, for 3 small stumps hire it done. When you call, tell them to bring the grinder with them when they come. You got the upper hand in the jewing that way. If they price it too high, tell them what you think is fair. If they are there with the machine, most likely they'll do it instead of leaving with nothing. Wont take but a few minutes to grind 3 small stumps. I would rather leave with $100.00 than leave without $200.00. That's how I always looked at it when I was grinding stumps.

dig the dirt back a few inches all the way around the stump, and on one side far enough back to get your chain saw below ground level about 4 inches, then cut it off. Three trees won't take long to do.

Be careful cutting at the ground because the dirt can really mess up a chain on a saw. Burn em? It will take a few times if you don't want to spend the $100. Wait till they dry out some then dig around them pour diesel and add a couple pieces of wood and let it go

I really appreciate all the ideas guys. I think I might just try and dig around and cut.Since I got a couple days off now. But may just may just say to heck with it and pay somebody. I was thinking it would be alot higher than that given the cost of everything nowadays.
