Have any of you guys figured out a way to keep coons out of an elevated trough feeder? I know the obvious trapping, shooting etc. I don't live close enough to stay on top of trapping part of it, so I'm thinking about wrapping something around the legs, which are round wood fence posts. Metal flashing, or spikes of some sort. Needs to be something that wouldn't injure the deer if they bumped into it. Maybe pictures if ya'll have anything

Last two years I have trapped the heck out of them with Havahart traps. I don't think I will ever get rid of them completely but it seems I did put a dent in the population. My neighbors now have a few more coons running around.

Ive tried the carpet strips. Little bastages still could tenderfoot up em. This might work better. Sharks teeth from bossbuck. http://www.amazon.com/Boss-Buck-Deterrent-Strips-Silver/dp/B0046UDJDUThere is also a way to slide PVC pipe over the legs where it will still spin and dump em off when they try to walk up legs. Just search on goggle for the pics of it.

Do you drive there fill the feeders up then drive home? Even if you only stay 1 night, you can catch a lot of coons with dog proof traps. They are about $10 each and you could catch quite a few in one night if they're coming to the feeders regularly.

Get a large container of Vaseline and wipe a generous amount on the top 3 feet of the legs. No way to keep them from eating what is on the ground.

Put some gusset plates on the legs.

Thanks for the ideas. Think I'm gonna go with the metal flashing around the legs covered with Vaseline and possible gusset plates. I'll try to update with pics as I go and let ya'll know the results

The only cure I've found for hogs and coons is the Double D Gravity Feeder at wildernesscalls.com.We bought two to start with a couple years ago then three more once we found out how effective they were and are getting three more in a couple weeks.Our food bill has cut in half since using them due to no coons,hogs and spoilage.We have the Big Buck which holds 350lbs of pellets or 400 of corn/roasted soybean mix.It takes us around a year and a half to recoop our money on feed cost savings. Retail as of 2015 was $575 but if you have some people that want to go in with you,Jamie has a dealer program that if you buy 5 to 10 the cost is $442.
