22 for us also with good optics.if you can't find them and have to shake vines,like beadlescomb said its hard to get one timbering with a rifle.I don't understand the rule steel in shotguns lead in rifles what's the difference. I'll carry a .22 on private land that doesn't get hunted but our national forest squirrels are so wild I'd have probably only killed 10 this year with a .22 vs 238 with shotguns
