Well,I had already come to the realization that I probably wasn't going to shoot a buck this yr. I've seen a bunch of really good 3 yr Olds and maybe one 4 yr old,but nothing that got me to take the safety off. Thur evening,I was sitting on a greenfield nestled in some planted pines with a bunch sage brush grown up in them; about 4 pm,I saw this buck walking through the sage. Instantly knew he was a shooter,but thought it was actually a different deer off our hitlist. I took my time,put my earplugs in,and settled the cross hairs on his shoulder and pull the trigger, and it just went click. I wasn't sure what had happened,so I quickly shuck another shell in and try to get back on him,but couldn't find him; he had heard the click and froze. I eventually found a tiny shot window where all I could see was his mid section,no head or hind end. I fig'd the 300 ultra mag would get the job done if I made the shot,so I blasted. Deer took about 15 steps and stopped again so I shot again and he disappeared. When I got down and went and looked,I was pleasantly surprised at what buck it was. Not sure if the bullet was a misfire or if the bolt wasn't totally closed,but the primer had a slight indention where the firing pin hit it and it didn't go off. Had multiple pics of him last yr and one pic of him this yr. He's my biggest scoring deer ever and I couldn't be more happy with him. The good Lord blessed my season once again.    I actually put the tape on him and rough scored him last night. Any guesses? I'll say I was surprised at what he scored. Bases were 5 3/4 and 5 1/4"
