Im a savage guy and I have one in a 300 win mag. I hunted with it more this year than normal. Im usually carrying it in .270. I will warn you though, savage with a synthetic stock in 300 will knock the living piss out of you. It kicks like a pissed off fair mule. I had to put a 1 piece DMV mount on it this summer because the scope wouldnt stay zeroed due to the recoil. 6 rounds to get it dialed back in and I didnt want no more!
I have a savage weather warrior in 300 win mag and i never feel it kick, shooting at an animal. I don't target practice with it. Its the only gun i deer hunt with and can drive tacks with it. I have a leopold mount and varix-111 scope and haven't had to adjust the scope since i dialed it in 17 years ago. You might want to buy a better mount and rings, make sure they loctite them as well. I actually dropped this gun 8' and it landed on the scope and its still dead on.
