Jon, you are putting the hurt on the yotes. I'm curious how many different places you trap to catch so many, or are there just a bunch around there. Since Christmas I've caught 9 coyote and one gray fox on one farm out of 4 traps set about 5 feet apart. On the second farm I've caught 4 coyotes 6 gray fox, 1 red fox, 1 Coon, and 2 possums out of about 10 traps.

Empty sets again this morning. I expected that with the heavy rain we had last night.
I went ahead and pulled my traps from that place. Need to clean them up, re dye/wax, and get ready to trap some new spots.

I pulled my traps from 2 of my bounty jobs this morning. Nothing in them and high water the next couple nights so I brought them home.

Hank are you using that sand bag to weigh down your drowning wire?

Yea Jon. Just filled a feed sack 3/4 full of big sand rocks and wired it shut. It takes a big beaver to drag those suckers back to the bank but I had it happen twice this week.
I've got two railroad tie plates that I'm going to try this week. I like the fact that they are heavy and won't take nearly as much room as feed sacks or blocks.

I use to use them on my fish baskets. I would weld two screws on each corner on one end and tie my cable to the other end. I'd drop it in and drag till it caught the ease my basket in.

I haven't. I wish I had some to try but I'm not investing anymore into trapping until either the fur market turns around or I pick up more paying jobs.
I've got a LOT of money tied up in traps that are hanging in the shed.

I've got a LOT of money tied up in traps that are hanging in the shed. 10-4. I think I got $25 or so tied up in 4 of them. Bought two 20' sticks of rebar and a couple of washers and nuts. Buddy welded them up and had some scrap square tube laying around to make the drowning locks.

I know the feeling Hank, you have really got to love trapping to put up with all we have to put up with. I do love it. And you never know when the right opportunity may come around and get to make a little money off of it. I'm 99% sure that the days of making a living off of trapping are long gone but at least it's a hobby that pays for itself now.

I caught a gray fox and a coyote this morning. The coyote had both front feet in the trap. Well one foot and a couple toes from the other foot.

Nice catches Jon. I really need to get my traps back out, but have to clean them up and get time from work first. 14 hour shifts five days straight will suck your time.
