I'm fairly new to reloading and wanted to get yalls take on this subject. Should you deprime as a separate step or resize/deprime at the same time? I've read about some folks using a hand tool or seperate press to deprime. I've only been depriming/resizing
At the same time so far. Just wanted to know what's the advantage to doing this step seperate.

I run all my brass through an universal decapper, then tumble, and then resize. I'd rather not get the dirt and grime on my resizing die. Which you could tumble before depriming.

i tumble first, then lube, then deprime and resize at the same time. Make sure all of the cleaning media is out of the case. Use samll media, and not the corn cob stuff and it's a non-issue.

I wet tumble with SS pins and deprime/resize in one step. I don't worry with primer pockets as much as I probably should but have never had a misfire. The SS pin media gets the inside of the case as clean as the outside and the pins fall out in the rinse cycle of that process. Knowing that the inside of the case is spotless and the deprime pin cleaned the flash hole, I'm good to go.

Thanks for the info guys! I just got my tumbler a few weeks ago. Since then I've been tumbling before deprime/resize and for a few min after case is prepped to make sure all the lube is gone. I was just curious about depriming in a seperate
step and why doing so would be the way to go. I didn't think about scratching the die.

Personal preference. Tumbling deprimed brass isn't going to clean the primer pockets(may with SS pins, I don't know, never used them). I used to tumble, then size/deprime and load. Now I use my 45-70 die as a universal decapper as I usually am depriming a bunch of mixed caliber from the range, and just swap shell holders as I go. For rifles, I tend to tumble, then lube/size/deprime, and then throw them back in the tumbler to remove the lube.

I use a Univerial de-capping die to knock out primers. Then Ultra--Sonic Clean. Then use Redding or Harrels dies. I dont want dirt cases messing up my good dies~

Forgot about the ultrasonic cleaners, they will leave them really clean. Have you ever had the solution turn the brass a pinkish color? Cosmetic or is it affecting the quality of the brass?

Kind of, a redish color. Throw A little Lemi-Shine in their, about 1 0z or so and the brass will stay shiney. Lemi-shine is sold at wal-mart in dishwashing isle

Well since I have time on my hands I: 1. Deprime with universal deprimmer. 2. Run in wet tumbler with S/S pins 3. Air dry with fan. 4. Lube an size 5. Run in wet tumbler once more for 30 minutes to remove water soluble lube. 6. Air dry 7. Load.

For me, here's my steps:
1) tumble
2) inspect
3) size and deprime in one step
4) trim
5) chamfer and debur
6) clean primer pockets
7) tumble to remove lube
8) inspect again and remove media from flash hole as needed
9) load
10) shoot
11) go to step 1 and repeat

Think Redding makes a similar type device. I have looked and can't find anything like it. Guess I will order one and try it out.

Durning step 4, I lube with Hornady One Shot case lube which is a dry film lube that does not contaminate powder. This eliminates the need for steps 5 & 6.
