Diesel guys give your opinion of the two engines. I'm looking at purchasing a new to me diesel truck.

I never had any trouble with either of the 2 duramax's I've owned.. if you are set on getting a Ford I would go with a 7.3, I have one now and it's a good engine

Duramax all the way. Know people that have both and everyone swears the duramaxs pull harder and seem to have more over all power.
Only accurate rifles are interesting.

I've driven both Ford and Chevy diesels pulling a 32 foot fishing boat all over the gulf coast and IMO the Duramax pulled much better.

People say what they want. The only bullet proofed 6.0 I've seen is the ones that were swapped out for a Cummins.

This is my first diesel so I am gathering all the info I can. The two trucks I am looking at are both 06 crew cab models and both have about the same mileage on them and priced about the same.

I prefer the cummins overall. Which I prefer a straight axle truck. Duramax had injector issues for awhile I can't remember what years they where that was worse about it. And ford with out a 7.3 is a dirty word. They all have pros and cons

My oldest boy has had 2 6.0's, still has one. Both have EGR delete, programmers, etc., and both are pretty solid. The one he still has is a daily driver F250, the other was an F450 set up as his welding rig. He replaced the F450 a year or so ago with a Dodge 3500, but his decision to replace it wasn't based on engine issues.
Having said all that, I'd probably lean towards pretty much anything other than the 6.0...kind of like pit bulls; they've got such a reputation that I'd just as soon not take the chance.

Find you an F250 with a blown motor, drop in a Cummins and an Allison transmission (I saw a while back where they make a kit where the 2 will mate up).

In my opinion your getting great advice here, my choice would be Duramax or 5.9 cummins
I wouldn't worry about factory injector issues if it were me because that would be the first thing changed in any of them

I have had 3 5.9 cummins trucks and 1 duramax. I will probably never own another duramax. Fuel mileage was terrible and for some other reasons. A 5.9 cummins cannot be beat.

I've thought about getting a Dodge with the Cummins motor but Dodge has always had such a bad resale value. At least historically.

FYI, I got an 01 2500hd duramax, bought used with 65,000 miles,
190,000 now. In between new injectors(warranty) new transfer case, new Allison tranny, new fuel injector pump and housing. But still a Chevy man will buy another when the time is right.
