Good job Joe. Is that your first one? Nah, we caught a few last year. Our cheap trap got beat up pretty bad last year and was not triggering as it should. Picked up a new one yesterday evening and had the coon on the first night.

Joe that's a cool pic with the kid waving! It's been a long day here and I actually just got to see the live trap under the wood.
Ron those egg suckers will really put a dent in your ground nesting bird population. Everybody loves to see a big coyote in a trap but from a turkey hunters point of view every possum and coon I catch I'm just as happy!
I walked out in my yard this afternoon and there was a covey of quail not 20 yards from my front door. On my 40 acres I've got about 2.5 acres of chufas and the turkeys have every inch of them scratched up. From a place that 5 years ago you couldn't find a turkey or quail to what I have today I'm proud. People say you can't make a difference on small acreages and I say I've made a difference. I've got the results here daily! Awesome! That's what I'm hoping to achieve the next couple of years!
Its better to sit in a stand and think about God, then to sit in church and think about hunting.

Jon I caught a Bobtailed coyote that looked like that last year. Short haired and all. Mine was a big, stocky male with a huge block head. And mean couldn't touch him. Lol! Had another good run this morning here. 3 beaver, 1 otter and a bonus coon.  Another TS-85 double.

Good deal muddy! I've been filing miles triggers in on my #3 long springs and night latching some others getting them ready to dye! I've got to do some pan tension adjustment on those dukes, I drilled them out, and put new brass in them to take the slack out. After waxing they'll be in the ground

I hear ya! I made expanded pans for the #3 longs and the added weight of the big pan made them feather light triggers. Some of them wouldn't even stay set. Broke out the files and got them at 2.5 lbs now.
Between that, filing night latches and adding retrieval cables on all my super stakes I've been staying busy.

I hear you. I had to night latch those dukes and set pan tension when I got them I caught them on sale for 10 bucks a piece. After adding a spring kit, and new pan bolts I have about 13 a piece in them. They have 6 inch jaws, and are a lot better trap now. Hopefully they'll hold a few song dogs for me til I get there.

So I have never trapped before and would like to eventually get started but I have a dumb question. What is the purpose of waxing the traps?
Only accurate rifles are interesting.

Wax seals the trap, it helps with scent control, serves as a rust inhibitor and speeds the trap up.

Good to know I would like to get started with some Dukes on coons, at our lease we have at lease 6-10 coons in every pic. Look like hogs there are so many.

The Duke dogproofs are good no doubt about it but the FB1 dogproofs are much easier to set and really seem to be built well.

10 4 thanks for the info. This would be for fun mostly as I do not own the land that I hunt and am not allowed to turkey hunt it, so wont be for predation.
