Talk radio said this morning Dabo was screaming that the Clemson player has to be given an opportunity to catch the ball. However, that is only the case if the Clemson player waves fair catch which he didn't do. In fact, there wasn't a Clemson player anywhere near the ball. Therefore it was a live ball for the Bama player to catch. I don't remember it but supposedly this happened in a Bama/South Carolina game where Saban ran the same play. Difference was the SC player waved fair catch and the Bama player caught it anyway. SC ball in that scenario.

That makes sense. If it were a normal onside kick where the ball hits the ground first, then Clemson would not have even had an option to call for the fair catch. Alabama knew the Clemson player had not been looking for the ball on the other kickoffs and called the pooch kick. Great call that was probably the difference in the game.
